G’s Memorial Visit 2026

By Anthony Hegarty · September 4, 2026

I just returned from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) at Daytona Beach to honor my late wife, Genevieve’s, birthday at her memorial there, she would have been 52. I have been coming here since her death November 14th; 2020, her memorial consists of a dedicated Bench & Palm Tree on the Aviation Campus. G, as she was called, also has scholarship set up in her name which supports three causes:

  • Women in Aviation
  • College of Aviation Fund for Excellence at the Daytona Campus
  • Protecting Animal Wellness Society (PAWS)

This year we dedicated one of the cat feeding boxes to G as her scholarship donations helped build the contraption.

As always, the folks at ERAU were amazingly supportive; shout-outs to Bill Thompson, Travis Grantham of the Philanthropy Department and Megan Lupac, President of PAWS.

At ERAU there are about 25-40 feral cats that PAWS and random students look after. Cats were a big part of G’s and my life together, something I write about in her book, Short Stories About a Tall Woman-Remembering Genevieve. So, it is a fitting cause to support. All proceeds from book sales go towards the scholarship, BTW.
