On this day, myself and several of G’s close friends converged on Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) to celebrate a wonderful woman, my late wife, Genevieve “G” Hegarty. It also included a dedication of her commemorative Bench and Palm Tree on the campus of ERAU. G had graduated from the university in 1999 and gone on to become a professional Air Traffic Controller. This visit also served to launch the scholarship I formed in her name, supporting three causes close to G’s heart:
- Women in Aviation
- College of Aviation Fund for Excellence at the Daytona Campus
- P.A.W.S. – Protecting Animal Wellness Society

This initial visit was hampered by bad weather on the East Coast and the COVID pandemic; however, several folks made it while some were unable to travel for the reasons just mentioned.
I would be remiss not mentioned the amazing support of the folks from ERAU, namely William “Bill” Thompson, Greg Hollback and Marie Clifford from the Department of Philanthropy.
My plan is to return on an annual basis as a minimum and post the events on my social media platforms. I hope you enjoy them.
